General Information
  • Food and open drink containers are not allowed.
  • Personal belongings are not the responsibility of Wesleyan. Please contact campus security (478-960-7969) for lost items.
  • Please direct any special needs requests – inc. seating accommodations - to jamos@wesleyancollege.edu 
  • Please do not bring child carriers, strollers, large packages, balloons, or wear large hats. They may obstruct the view of other guests.
  • Pets (except service animals) are prohibited.
  • Photographs will be taken by Wesleyan's photographer and/or a contracted professional photographer, and will be available for FREE download after Commencement.
Safety Procedures

Wesleyan College has a long history of cordially welcoming visitors to our campus. We strive to provide first-rate protection in order to ensure the safety of the entire campus community.

  • Wesleyan College is a fire arms-free campus. Thank you in advance for adhering to this policy.
  • Currently, masks are optional on campus – both indoors and outdoors. Anyone who chooses to wear a mask on campus for their own protection is welcome to do so.
Senior Checklist

February 2025

  • All Month - Regalia (cap, gown, hood & tassel) must be ordered through the Campus Store by March 28. You will receive an order form via email. Contact campusstore@wesleyancollege.edu with any questions.
  • February 1 - First day to order Commencement tickets.
  • Candlelighting form emailed to Seniors.

March 2025

  • March 1 - Deadline to notify Registrar - registrar@wesleyancollege.edu - of official name change on diploma. (Legal documentation is required.)
  • March 1 - Deadline to file application for diploma for students completing degree requirements.
  • March 1 - Deadline to turn in Candlelighting Forms. Contact: csnow@wesleyancollege.edu
  • March 25 - Senior Toast, Trice Room, 7:00 p.m. – 8:30 p.m.
  • March 28 - Deadline to order regalia through the Campus Store.

 

April 2024

  • April 23 - Celebrating Student Scholarship Day (day classes canceled); Honors & Awards Ceremony, 11:15am
  • April 25 - First day to pick up commencement tickets during First Destination Day. You must complete an exit survey at the event to receive tickets. If you cannot attend the event, go to CCD to complete the survey and pick up tickets.
  • April 26 - Candlelighting Ceremony, Porter Aud., 11:00 a.m.
  • April 30 - Deadline at 12:00 p.m. for Federal Student Loan Borrowers to finish Direct Loan Exiting Counseling. Please contact financialaid@wesleyancollege.edu with questions.

 

May 2024

  • May 1 - Deadline to advise the College if you or your guests require accessibility accomodations at commencement; please contant jamos@wesleyancollege.edu
  • May 1 - Deadline to choose a hooder, someone who places an academic hood over your head during Commencement. Each graduate will designate a hooder to bestow this honor. You may choose anyone as a hooder - typically a person who has held an essential, supportive role in your educational journey.
  • May 1 Deadline (12:00 p.m., noon) to settle all financial obligations to the College. Please contact businessoffice@wesleyancollege.edu with questions.
  • May 3 – Deadline to pick up regalia in the Campus Store during regular store hours.
  • May 7 – Pinning Ceremony for Nursing Graduates, 6:00 p.m., Pierce Chapel
  • May 9 - Last day to pick up Commencement tickets in the Students Affairs Office by 12:00pm.
  • May 9 – Commencement Rehearsal & Class Photo, 1:00 p.m., Porter Auditorium. ALL GRADUATES MUST ATTEND. *Bring your cap, gown, hood & tassel.
  • May 10 – Baccalaureate Service, 6:00 p.m. is a celebratory tradition to honor the graduating class. Seniors and faculty gather at the original Wesleyan College location in downtown Macon, and then proccess to Mulberry Street UMC.

GRADUATION DAY

 

Saturday, May 11 2014

  • 9:15 a.m. - Meet in the OSP basement outside Trice/campus post office. Be on time & follow Junior Marshals’ lead.
  • Please secure personal items; your hands need to be free for accepting your diploma!
  • Wear a College-issued black cap, black tassel, and black gown. The graduation cap should be worn flat on the top of the head, with the tassel on the right.
  • Students may personalize their regalia in the following ways:
  • Wearing stoles, cords, or pins of academic standing issued by the College or College-approved entities (e.g., Phi Kappa Phi, Mortar Board, Beta Beta Beta, and honor societies). Please contact your advisor regarding stoles, cords or pins.
  • Decorating top surface of caps. Cap decorations should be no taller than 1” and not hang down. Glitter, curse words & content that’s offensive, demeaning or degrading to others isn’t permitted.
  • Adding stoles or other markers of tribal, ethnic, or religious identity.
  • Students must comply with these guidelines in order to participate in Commencement. Students who do not comply with this policy will be required to remove and store all unapproved items prior to the ceremony. The Faculty Marshal will interpret and implement this policy.
  • 9:50 a.m. – Begin to process from OSP to Porter Auditorium.

Rain Plan: If the weather looks rainy, check your Wesleyan Gmail for updates from Faculty Marshal Megan McMahon. If we switch to our Rain Plan, meet downstairs in Porter Auditorium and follow Junior Marshals.

  • 10:00 a.m. – Commencement Ceremony begins!
  • Post-commencement – All guests and graduates are invited to our annual Lemonade on the Lawn in front of Porter Auditorium hosted by Wesleyan’s Alumnae Association/Alumnae Office; Rain site: Anderson Dining Hall

Benson Charge: “Members of the graduating class, demands will be made upon you which were not made upon us. Your training, if you are true to it, will amply qualify you to meet those demands. No wiser blessing could I wish for you than that you may be true to every God-appointed work.” Catherine Brewer Benson, Wesleyan College’s first graduate, Class of 1840.

Diploma from 1840

Catherine Brewer Benson

In 1840, Catherine Elizabeth Brewer Benson became the first woman to receive her degree from the first college in the world chartered to grant degrees to women. 

Catherine Elizabeth Brewer Benson 1840 In the 1839 Georgia Female College catalog, twenty young women are listed in the Junior Class. Of this number, eleven graduated on the night of July 16, 1840, and were pioneers in education for women. By virtue of being alphabetically the first in line, Catherine Elizabeth Brewer was the first woman to receive her degree from the first college in the world chartered to grant degrees to women.
