Wesleyan College, one of the most diverse liberal arts colleges in the United States, welcomes qualified high school graduates from all around the world. An important part of Wesleyan's academic and social life, international students contribute to the diversity and vibrancy of our campus community, bringing their experiences, talents, and perspectives from more than twenty countries in any given year.
At Wesleyan College, women are expected to think, to explore, and to dream big. To meet the demands of a changing world, we educate women to do the extraordinary in their professions and in service to their communities.
Wesleyan offers a safe and friendly atmosphere where faculty and administration are committed to helping ease cultural transition for all students.
Equal pay and equal representation will only happen when more women lead. Wesleyan has designed programs that will prepare and propel students to the top of any ladder.
Accelerate equality. The core values of women’s colleges are based on empowering and elevating the female voice. The power of educated women coming together can overcome biases and influence society. Women’s colleges create a space which prioritizes the female voice, female issues, and female rights.
Strive to move the needle forward on gender parity for women. Women’s colleges attract women who know that the best way to reach gender parity is through the advancement of uniquely female spaces and places which hold space for a woman’s perspective and autonomy.
Empowering Student Experience. Women’s colleges are prepared to transform students into the leaders of tomorrow. Those women who have made the intentional and informed choice to attend a women’s college will gain a competitive edge that happens only at women’s colleges. Graduates of women’s colleges are almost twice as likely as all other graduates to say they felt better prepared for life after college. They are also more likely to be completely satisfied with the quality of their education and feel that it was a good investment.
Support the leaders of tomorrow. Women’s college graduates are twice as likely to attend graduate school.
Attract women from around the globe. As the U.S. population grows more and more diverse, women’s colleges are where you will find the truest representation of our country’s multi-cultural, ethnically vast composition. Wesleyan’s 2022 undergraduate student demographic: 41% African American, 41% White, 7% Hispanics of any race, 11% other. Twenty-two international countries were represented in our 2022 enrollment.
Nurture individual gifts. At Wesleyan we will support and nurture your unique gifts, setting you on a leadership track for the future. Big ideas happen in small places. With an average class size of 20 students, you will be seen, heard, and valued.
Expect students to participate, discuss, debate, and challenge professors. Education is the way to change the world, so use your voice, speak up, and decide how you’re going to change things.
Provide a competitive advantage. Young women get their first bit of experience through meaningful internships which build resumes so all networks of power can open. At Wesleyan, you will participate in prestigious paid or for-credit internship opportunities. These curated and personalized experiences will set you apart with job interviews and graduate school applications.
Career paths are changing rapidly and graduates must draw from a variety of skill sets to adapt to challenges and capitalize on opportunities. A liberal arts education means studying broadly—taking classes in many different subjects—and building skills that are geared toward more than just one profession. This type of elite education can develop intellectual ability and prepare you for many fields in today’s workplace. A liberal arts education prepares you for your first job and your last.
In today’s job market, global competencies like cultural awareness, language, and adaptability are in demand. Virtually all job openings will place significant importance on judgment, decision-making, drawing unexpected connections, communication, emotional intelligence, critical thinking, and collaboration. Wesleyan will help you develop the tangible and human skills you need to positively influence people and project outcomes.
Real-world working experience - At elite U.S. colleges like Wesleyan College, you are required to have at least one internship prior to graduation. The experience will connect you with top employers which can build your network and provide future opportunities for beginning your career or entering a graduate program.
Multicultural experiences - The U.S. is home to people from all over the world, each with their own unique cultures and traditions. Its diverse environment ensures that there is acceptance among all communities and there is no room for any sort of discrimination. You’ll be learning with students from different regions of the world thereby making it a rich and stimulating education experience. When you become a member of the Wesleyan community, you agree to adhere to our core values of tolerance, mutual respect, and civility, and to work toward creating a more just, inclusive, and equitable society. As an institution, we provide support, advocacy, and intentional learning opportunities to engage all campus community members in the understanding and awareness of inclusive practices and to foster equitable working, living, and learning environments and shared spaces.
World-class professors - The single most important advantage of a Wesleyan College education is the quality of the interactions you will have with your professors. Our professors are here because they want the opportunity to work closely with students, to get to know them, and to have an impact on their lives. Our professors have high expectations and the work is challenging, but you will find support and a lot of room for self-direction. Since our classes typically have fewer than twenty students, you’ll be expected to debate, discuss, and defend your opinions. Your professors will get to know you and know when you’re ready for a bigger challenge. They will help you choose experiences that are based on your unique strengths, interests, and goals. In every discipline, students have opportunities to work closely with faculty on original work.
Undergraduate research - A hallmark of the Wesleyan experience is the opportunity to conduct research as an undergraduate in the labs of Wesleyan faculty, and our institutional support for the presentation of independent research by students at professional meetings around the country.
Cutting-edge facilities - Many U.S. universities and colleges have highly advanced research laboratories which allow you to take part in groundbreaking research and create innovative new products. At Wesleyan College you’ll find spaces like our Munroe Science Center, a state-of-the-art facility that includes modern teaching laboratories and fully equipped research laboratories; a nursing simulation lab equipped with six human patient simulators and a state-of-the-art control room; an art building with equipment necessary to explore 2D, 3D, and multi-media art making; and so much more.
Athletics – According to a national survey, students at U.S. women’s colleges are almost three times more likely to be involved in varsity athletics than at co-ed public universities. As members of the USA South Athletic Conference, Wesleyan is home to six NCAA Division III sports: basketball, cross country, soccer, softball, track, and volleyball, plus equestrian and club/cheer dance teams. About thirty-percent of Wesleyan students participate in College athletics.
Being independent and self-reliant - As an international student in the U.S., you will be living far away from your family and what is familiar to you. While this can be challenging when you first arrive, it is a valuable experience that helps you become independent and gives you the room to grow as a self-reliant individual. Wesleyan is a four-year residential college and most traditional students live on campus. We believe residence hall living provides a healthy environment for you to grow socially and intellectually. You will get to know the women in your residence hall well and form a close-knit and cohesive group. Each step in our living environment prepares students for independent living after college.
The prestige of an American degree - With a U.S. degree, you can stand out to employers as your degree represents the knowledge and experiences you have gained while studying. Your degree helps you access rewarding careers in the U.S. or anywhere in the world. Earning an elite, world-class women’s education will open doors you might not have thought about yet, and prepare you to work shoulder-to-shoulder in male dominated fields.
