Campus Safety

Our campus safety officers are certified through the Georgia Peace Officer Standards and Training Council (POST) and have the power to carry firearms and make arrests. The team is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, and 365 days a year. You can reach the on-duty police officer at (478) 757-5145 (in the case of a power outage or busy signal they can be reached at (478) 960-7969) to report suspicious behavior, request an escort, or for other needs that can be addressed by your campus safety team. Any incident that is criminal in nature should be reported to campus police as soon as possible.

The Wesleyan campus safety officers conduct rounds and constant surveillance in order to ensure safety for the students, faculty, and staff. We strive to provide first-rate protection to the population on campus and ask everyone to:

  • Use well-lit, well-traveled routes and walk in a group.
  • Avoid isolated places.
  • Carry your keys in your hand when you walk to your car from residence hall door.
  • Lock your vehicle and be sure all windows are closed.
  • Before entering your car, check the back seat.
  • Don’t leave valuables, like your purse or book bag unattended.
  • Take care of your keys and never loan them to anyone.
  • Do not go into the woods alone and never at night.
  • Report suspicious individuals or behavior to campus safety officers immediately.
  • Check the Emergency Procedures web page for detailed instructions in the event of a campus-wide emergency.

Campus safety and crime prevention requires your active involvement! (Do not assume someone else will report something.) Notifying campus safety of any suspicious behavior or individuals is critical. Campus safety officers patrol the campus both by car and on foot on a regular basis in order to provide security and protection on campus, however all members of the campus community must play a role in their personal safety as well as that of others. Read the Annual Campus Safety Report.

Prepare for Emergency now.

Wesleyan College uses the Omnilert service (WesAlert) for notifying individuals about campus emergencies. You are automatically enrolled as an active user if you are faculty, staff and students with a Wesleyan email addresses.

The Jeanne Clery Disclosure of Campus Security Policy and Campus Crime Statistics Act is the landmark federal law, originally known as the Campus Security Act, which requires colleges and universities across the United States to disclose information about crime on and around their campuses.
