One of the best things about Wesleyan is that we are a community within a community. Almost everything that a student needs can be found right here on campus. You can count on every kind of support, from academic to technical to medical to social.
College faculty and staff are trained and available to help students with most of the support services needed. So, don't be afraid to ask for help. It's all right here!
The campus community is vigilant about students’ safety. To keep residential buildings safe and secure, all exterior doors remain locked at all times. A resident is only issued the key to her own room and building. We encourage all residents to lock their bedroom doors at all times when they are away.
In addition, Resident Advisors perform multiple nightly duty rounds to inspect the safety and security of each residential building. RAs identify and address maintenance concerns, potential hazards, and policy violations at this time. The RAs on duty are also available to address after-hours student emergencies 365 days a year.
Residents are responsible for contributing to a safe, secure living environment. Wesleyan College’s visitation policy requires residents to register all overnight and after-hours guests with the Office of Residence Life. Guests must be attended at all times.

Located on the ground floor of the Olive Swann Porter building, Health Services is staffed by a Women's Health Nurse Practitioner who provides medical treatment for common, non-life-threatening illnesses, treatment of minor injuries, and physical examinations. The nurse practitioner also provides personal health education and coordinates programs on health related topics. A physician is available on campus by appointment. There is no charge for Health Services visits for full-time students. All medical information in Health Services is confidential.
All new students must comply college medical requirements including immunizations, a tuberculosis test, and a physical examination. All full-time students, and all students living on campus are required to have health insurance that meets our college waiver requirements. Health insurance with coverage in Macon is required for all students to cover off-campus medical care. Students with chronic illnesses may be referred to local physicians for management. Off-campus referrals may be needed for diagnostic tests or treatment beyond the scope of Health Services.
There are several medical facilities close to campus that provide treatment when Health Services is closed. Navicent Health Urgent Care, located 925 Zebulon Road, is available for urgent medical care. Coliseum Northside Hospital Emergency Room, located at 400 Charter Boulevard is available for emergency treatment.

Student Counseling Services (SCS) provides short-term individual counseling to currently enrolled, full-time Wesleyan College students. Individual counseling provides an opportunity to explore your concerns on a one-to-one basis within the context of a confidential relationship. The counseling model attempts to empower you with the resources needed to make positive changes in your life. The counselor and student work together to define and discuss personal issues and reach mutually agreed upon goals.
Counseling is not a mysterious process. It is a process in which you and I work together to overcome obstacles which may be preventing you from reaching your fullest potential. Student Counseling Services (SCS) provides assistance designed to promote the academic, personal, and social growth. The college years are filled with exciting and challenging times for you. It is normal, even expected, that you will encounter difficult or stressful events. However, when you use the resources available to you, there is a much greater chance of success and overall sense of well-being.
Online Mental Health Screenings:
College is a very unique time in a person’s life. Some students are very young and away from home for the first time. Other students may be going back to school with the responsibility of a family to start a new career. No matter their reason for being in college, the lessons learned and obstacles overcome during their college years can provide a wonderful opportunity for emotional growth and maturity. However, these lessons and obstacles can also result in negative consequences such as overwhelming stress, psychological problems, and academic difficulties that affect the performance of the student. Counseling services are designed to assist students with addressing the difficulties that they encounter during these years and to promote greater overall wellness within the student population.
Services include individual therapy, consultant and referral services, and outreach programming.
Counseling Services is open Monday through Friday, 9:00am – 3:0 pm during the academic year and selected hours during the summer. Schedule your appointment.
Appointments last approximately 45 minutes and may be rescheduled on a weekly or bi-monthly basis. If a longer-term therapy experience or more intensive treatment is desired or clinically-indicated, then a referral to a private therapist or community service will be made as early as possible.
No. Counseling records are separate from a student’s academic record. Counseling records are kept by the Counseling Office for a minimum of 7 years and are then destroyed.
During business hours (Monday—Friday, 8:30am—5:00pm), students may walk-in or call Student Affairs main office at (478) 757-5214. After hours, students experiencing mental health emergencies should call Wesleyan College Campus Police at (478) 960-7969 or (478) 757-5145.
There are some mental health-related services that I am unable to provide (e.g., learning disability assessment, long-term psychotherapy). If one of these services is required, I will help with the referral process. Please be aware that these services generally involve a fee. In some cases, health insurance may cover some of the costs. I am happy to assist with making referrals as necessary.
