Living on campus will be your home away from home. Your residence hall will function as a bedroom, a living room, a second classroom, a hangout space & more. Answer all your questions you have about living on campus & learn what items to bring to make this experience uniquely yours. 

• Do I have to live on campus?

  • Wesleyan College believes in the unique experience living on campus provides a liberal arts student. In order to help build and solidify the connections that will expand your experience in and outside the classroom, all students are required to live on campus all 4 years of their academic career.

• Can students remain on campus during breaks? Are the dining halls open?

  • You can remain on campus during semester or holiday breaks. You are required to register for Thanksgiving, Winter and Spring break. Remaining on campus during Winter break will require a fee. Dining halls are not open during the break periods, and campus services are limited.

• What should I do if I am having a problem with my roommate?

  • Students who are having roommate problems should reach out to their resident advisor to establish a mediation. Your RA can help you tackle tough conversations and act as a support. For immediate intervention after hours, please call the resident advisor on duty at 478-461-7787. 

• I do not like my roommate, can I move?

  • Your Resident Advisor (RA) is your first line of defense in times where you need support. In situations where there is conflict between roommates, the RA will help review the roommate agreement and facilitate a mediation between roommates. We as a department want to empower students to compromise and learn how to navigate tough conversations in a guided setting. If students continue to have problems, the RA will ask Residence Life staff for assistance. 

• Can our custodial services help clean my room?

  • No, our cleaning staff will not clean student spaces unless the item becomes dirty due to a maintenance issue. If students need support or instruction on how to best clean an item they can contact the Department of Residence Life. 

• How are rooms assigned at Wesleyan? 

  • If you are a first-year student, you’ll be assigned to Banks Hall unless otherwise communicated. If you know your roommate, you may request that person on the housing application. If you do not select a roommate, the Department of Residence Life will match you with another first year student based on your housing application. 

  • We assign transfer students across all our halls based upon availability.

  • Each spring semester, returning students get the privilege of selecting where they want to live and with whom based on availability. Students will select their housing assignment on selection day. Students must have 40 hours completed by the end of the previous fall semester to qualify for the apartments (I.e. 40 hours at the end of Fall ‘23 to live in the apartments Fall ‘24). 

• Are pets allowed on campus?

  • Pets are not allowed on campus. Students are allowed a fish in a 10 gallon tank (no reptiles, amphibians, walking fish, turtles). ESA (Emotional Support Animals) and Service Animals must be registered/approved by the Office of Disability & Advocacy Services by July 1 for the fall semester and December 1 for the spring semester. 

• What size are the mattresses? 

  • Mattresses in Persons, Wortham, Jones, and Hightower are twin XL size. Beds in the apartments are full size.
