Valentina Huang

Valentina came to Wesleyan in July 2016 from Jiangxi Province, China. She studies piano, harpsichord, and organ performance, works as an accompanist for the music department, and is a member of the Concert Choir.

During her first two years at Wesleyan, Valentina won the Southeast Young Artist Piano Competition, Georgia Music Teachers Collegiate Concerto Competition, GMTA Collegiate Auditions, and most recently, the Rome Symphony Concerto Competition. She has studied at the Interharmony International Music Festival in Germany and was selected as an Outstanding Performer, and in 2018 she attended the Brevard Music Festival.

After graduating from Wesleyan, Valentina plans to earn an advanced degree in performance. “I think women need to be encouraged to stand up and live for themselves, to fight for what they want, and to be open to embracing different views and experiences. Studying at a women’s college helps women be brave enough to step into the career they want and to make their voices heard.”
