Despite extensive research dating back to the 1980s, no one has been able to determine the underlying mechanisms of plant fertilization. While the basics of the process are understood, the molecular underpinnings remain surprisingly obscure. My current research explores these mechanisms utilizing Arabidopsis thaliana as a model system. By utilizing modern molecular genetics techniques, my lab aims to bring a new understanding to this age-old question.
In addition to my research, I teach a variety of biology classes including genetics. I have a passion for undergraduate education, and deeply enjoy helping to prepare students for graduate school whether that be through teaching classes or mentoring students in my lab.
