Parking on Campus

All students are allowed to have cars on campus (parking is free) but must abide by the parking and traffic regulations enforced by Campus Police. If a student intends to have a car on campus:

  • All cars must be registered with the Campus Police Office and a Wesleyan parking decal must be displayed. Parking decals are free of charge. Student parking spaces are not reserved, but are available on a first come, first served basis. All students without a parking decal will be ticketed.
  • The College is not responsible for personal injury, damage to vehicles, vandalism, or theft of a vehicle or its contents.
  • Reserved parking on campus is available for visitors and those with physical disability. Visitor and Handicapped spaces are clearly marked. Unauthorized students, staff, and faculty should not park in those spaces. General parking on campus is indicated by white lined spaces, and is open to all students, faculty and staff.
  • Students, faculty, or staff members who drive a non-registered vehicle on campus, and it is a temporary arrangement, may request a temporary parking dashboard pass from Campus Police. This pass is to remain visible on the dashboard of the car for the duration of time the car will be on campus. The temporary parking passes will be dated for the period of time needed.
  • Students, faculty, or staff members who plan to have visitors parking vehicles on campus should contact Campus Police for instructions.
  • Students, faculty, or staff members who need to park in an unauthorized area, temporarily, should contact Campus Police for authorization and instructions. If Campus Police observe cars parked in unauthorized areas, and they have not been informed, the vehicles will be ticketed.
  • Sorry, there is no authorized parking around the Main Quad on front campus.
  • Our campus speed limit is 15 m.p.h.
  • Driving is restricted to campus streets. Parking is permitted in designated parking spots only. No parking is permitted next to yellow curbs.

Campus police will issue tickets for parking violations. Vehicles will be ticketed, and may be towed at the owner’s expense. Students, faculty, and staff members violating campus traffic regulations are subject to being ticketed and fined as follows:

  • Parking in Handicapped Zone (No Permit): $150
  • No parking decal displayed: $25
  • Parking in an unauthorized area: $25
  • Parking on sidewalk: $50
  • Blocking fire lane: $100
  • Blocking fire hydrant: $100
  • Blocking handicapped ramp: $100

  • Improper backing (Accident): $50
  • Leaving scene of accident $150

Multiple violations may result in referral to Honor Council for additional consequences. Parking and Traffic fines are placed on the student’s account. Students can pay fines in the Business Office.

General Information about the Citation Appeals Process at Wesleyan College

Anyone receiving a citation must pay the citation within ten days. Appeals must be received within ten calendar days of the issued date; after ten days, no appeals will be accepted. See page 91 of the student handbook for detailed parking information.

The Wesleyan College Honor Council reviews all appeals, however your parking ticket appeal does not become part of your permanent judicial file. All decisions rendered by the Honor Council regarding the appeal are considered final and must be followed accordingly. Please state clearly and concisely all pertinent information that should be considered in your appeal. Physical evidence should be delivered with the appeal when it is submitted.

Filing An Appeal

  • Complete the Citation Appeals Form.
  • Send the completed form to the Director of Residence Life.
  • Recipients of tickets for violation of traffic regulations will be allowed ten (10) days from the date of ticket to pay fines or file an appeal. This does not include weekends or official college holidays. After ten days, no appeals will be accepted.
  • No grades or transcripts will be released, and all college services will be withheld for unpaid fines or unanswered summons.
  • The following circumstances do not constitute a sufficient basis for approval for an appeal: Ignorance of the law, inability to find a parking space, or financial hardship caused by the fine(s), etc.
