Advertising and marketing communication (AMC) is an interdisciplinary major designed to prepare students for careers in advertising, marketing, graphic design, and media sales. Graduates of this program are skilled in communicating in various media and contexts; have a working knowledge of the basic principles and capabilities of design; have a broad understanding of contemporary marketing theory and business practices; and gain skills using industry-standard software for graphic design. Students have gone on to graduate studies in design, photography, and business, and have started careers in advertising, marketing, graphic design, photography, and public relations.
Students will gain a thorough understanding of the advertising and marketing communication field, including a firm foundation in the application of visual and textual thinking in actual projects and presentations, as well as a broad understanding of the content and principles of business, communication, and graphic design. Students are encouraged to double major in AMC and studio art, business administration, or communication.
The capstone class in the AMC major provides students with a real-world experience running their own ad agency. Working as a team, students partner with local start-ups and nonprofits to develop a marketing plan with supporting graphics and marketing materials. Students have found this experience to be challenging and a vital component in their career preparation.
Students majoring in AMC have interned with the Atlanta Governor’s Program, CNN, the Red Cross, the Cherry Blossom Festival, local television and radio stations, advertising agencies, and various law offices, hospitals, schools, and businesses in Atlanta and in the surrounding Macon community.

Someone who uses her creativity and technical tools to plan and develop designs to sell something, to entertain, to spread information, or to educate people.
Responsible for leading a team by developing guidelines and directing creative work including print collateral, websites, email campaigns, TV and radio advertising, social media, and many related tasks.
Sets the overall tone for a creative assignment such as the theme of a photo shoot, defining the values and graphic approach to a website, or choosing the color palette for a movie.
Primarily delivers the words and verbal content that accompanies the visual elements. Agency copywriters usually work in close partnership with art directors and have lots of input to the visual elements.
Responsible for managing marketing, advertising, and promotional staff and activities. Takes steps to measure, enhance, and enrich the position and image of a company through various goals and objectives.
Point-person for developing, implementing, and executing marketing initiatives and activities for their particular brand including print, web, social media, broadcast, campaigns, events, and sponsorships.
Specializes in sales of commercial, industrial, or residential services using knowledge of marketing conditions, contracts, sales methods, and equipment.
Responsible for designing, creating, and delivering marketing programs to support the growth of company products/services through sales presentations. Provides report based marketing trends, competition, new products, and pricing.
A web designer is more focused on the look and feel of a website than how it works; a person with an aesthetic sense who can build and maintain websites that look good.
Selects media platforms that best suit the brand or product that will be advertised. Contact with clients and colleagues is a key feature of the job.
