Tutoring is available for all registered Wesleyan College undergraduate students. The goal of tutoring is to supplement the work accomplished in the classroom. Current students who have achieved success in a class or subject matter are trained to assist their peers in learning concepts and developing study skills in this area. Tutoring can take place on an individual basis or in small groups.
Tutoring is not only recommended when a student has a question about course content, but also throughout the studying and exam preparation process.
Tutors are prepared to assist students by utilizing academic success strategies such as reviewing class materials, discussing past tests, working on sample problems, and preparing for exams. This in turn helps the student deepen her understanding of the material and strengthens her ability to demonstrate her knowledge.
The Academic Resource Center provides free academic counseling and tutoring for students who seek to improve understanding of course content and academic success skills. Group workshops and individual sessions are available throughout the academic year. Students may set up an appointment with a peer tutor or with the Director of the Academic Resource Center. The director offers confidential counseling with individual students for academic issues. Tutoring schedules are revised each semester and posted in the center. In addition, during the fall semester the Director offers weekly study skill sessions designed to help students at Wesleyan College excel academically.
Tutoring can take place at any location on campus that is conducive to learning.
