Campus Police

Campus Safety

Our police officers are certified through the Georgia Peace Officer Standards and Training Council (POST) and have the power to carry firearms and make arrest. The Department has a Chief and four other full time police officers and two on-call officers. The team is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, and 365 days a year. You can reach the on duty police officer at 478-757-5145 (in the case of a power outage or busy signal they can be reached at 478-960-7969) to report suspicious behavior, request an escort, or for other needs that can be addressed by your Campus Police Officers. Any incident that is criminal in nature should be reported to Campus Police as soon as possible.

The Wesleyan Police Officers conduct rounds and constant surveillance in order to ensure safety for the students, faculty and staff. We strive to provide first rate protection to the population on campus and asked everyone to:

  • Use well-lit, well-traveled routes and walk in a group.
  • Avoid isolated places.
  • Carry your keys in your hand when you walk to your car from residence hall door.
  • Lock your vehicle and be sure all windows are closed.
  • Before entering your car, check the back seat.
  • Don’t leave valuables, like your purse or book bag unattended.
  • Take care of your keys and never loan them to anyone.
  • Do not go into the woods alone and never at night.
  • Report suspicious individuals or behavior to Campus Police immediately.
  • Check the Emergency Procedures web page for detailed instructions in the event of a campus-wide emergency.

Campus safety and crime prevention requires your active involvement! (Do not assume someone else will report something.) Notifying Campus Police of any suspicious behavior or individuals is critical. Campus Police officers patrol the campus both by car and on foot on a regular basis in order to provide security and protection on campus, however all members of the campus community must play a role in their personal safety as well as that of others as well. Read the Campus Safety Report.

Prepare for Emergency now. To ensure that our campus community stays safe, even during an emergency situation, do two important things now:

1. Register with Wesleyan ALERT, the College's Emergency TEXT Messaging service. In the event of an emergency, a TEXT message will be sent by a College official directly to the cell phone registered with the service. Sign up NOW: Wesleyan ALERT. Also go to the site and change numbers should your cell phone number change while you are here.

2. Review Wesleyan's Emergency Management Plan and become familiar with important procedures! From fires to tornadoes, now is the time to learn about emergency procedures so you'll know exactly what action to take should an emergency occur on our campus.

Wesleyan Campus Police publishes quarterly reports of crime statistics as well as an annual safety report detailing crime information specific to our campus, as required by the Clery Act. The Jeanne Clery Disclosure of Campus Security Policy and Campus Crime Statistics Act is the landmark federal law, originally known as the Campus Security Act, which requires colleges and universities across the United States to disclose information about crime on and around their campuses.
