Lane Center Initiatives

Each year the Lane Center has a direct impact on more than 46 community agencies through volunteer efforts.

Students have delivered personal hygiene supply boxes; served breakfast to the homeless; visited retirement homes to sing Christmas carols and help decorate for the holidays; and packed and delivered over 100 shoebox gifts for Operation Christmas Child. Students also have helped prepare and plant a community garden; joined with Crisis Line and Safe House of Central Georgia to lead the 2015 "Take Back the Night" march to bring awareness to sexual assault; and supported Rotary Feed 100 by contacting families to schedule delivery of a holiday meal. The Lane Center works closely with Bibb County schools to provide support to at-risk students in the forms of tutoring, conducting SAT/ACT preparation workshops, and speaking to students about how they overcame challenges in their own lives. Accounting students can participate in the Voluntary Income Tax Assistance Program (VITA). The program awards certificates in tax preparation from the Internal Revenue Service for providing tax return assistance to low- and middle-income taxpayers in the community.
