Pierce Chapel

Having recently celebrated our 175th Anniversary as the oldest college in the world chartered to grant degrees to women, we are ever mindful of the College’s affiliation with the Methodist Church since our founding in 1836. As we live out our commitment to the church and to the “foundation of faith” that is a cornerstone of the Wesleyan experience for our students, we believe it is time to have a dedicated chapel building at Wesleyan College. The new Pierce Chapel will combine history, mission, current need, and permanent tribute.

Wesleyan is now the only Methodist-affiliated college in the state of Georgia without a dedicated chapel building; however, we have a full-time Chaplain and are steadily building a fully endowed chaplaincy. Our faith and service organizations are thriving and we are preparing several students for seminary each year. Complementing Wesleyan’s outstanding academic program, organizations like Methodist Wesley Foundation, Baptist Collegiate Ministries, Catholic Newman Club, Lane Center Servant Leaders, and Episcopal Canterbury Club invigorate our campus life. We are particularly excited about the growth in the College’s newest campus ministry program, Wesleyan Disciples. The addition of Pierce Chapel to our campus will provide a center of worship and ministry programming, playing an enormous role in the daily lives of our students as they grow academically as well as in lessons of faith and service to others.

Cole & Cole Architects has drawn conceptual plans for the design of Pierce Chapel and we expect the total project costs to be approximately $6 million. To date, Wesleyan College has raised more than $4 million in gifts and pledges. Currently, we are working diligently to raise the additional funds needed to break ground and begin construction during 2012. To meet this goal, Wesleyan launched the Friends of Pierce Chapel Fund Drive, designed to engage alumnae and donors in the project at levels of $5,000, $10,000, $25,000 and higher.

Friends of Pierce Chapel will be prominently recognized in the main lobby. For more information about becoming a Friend, please contact the Office of Institutional Advancement at (478) 757-5187.
