Mosaic Marketing Consultants prove successful
|
Competing with sixteen other colleges and universities, the Wesleyan College chapter of the professional business fraternity Alpha Kappa Psi placed second in a Regional Case Competition in Atlanta, Georgia during Success Institute weekend in February of 2008. The Wesleyan chapter, Nu Omega, presented a four page written evaluative report and a twenty minute Powerpoint Presentation to a panel of three judges. The award included a $500 cash prize.
Held simultaneously in different regions across the country, the Success Institute offers students a weekend focused on building skills at the individual level. With sessions on professional and personal development, chapter management, business etiquette and team leadership, students can "piece" together their own weekend by selecting those programs that will benefit the development of the individual student or the chapter as a whole. This year’s participating cities were Atlanta, Chicago, Dallas, Philadelphia, and Reno.
The Wesleyan team’s name, Mosaic Marketing Consultants, was chosen to represent the unique differences each member contributed, and the team’s ability to come together in a “mosaic” fashion. “Piecing Together Your Marketing Needs” served as their tag line. Per their assigned case study, the team consulted a non-profit science organization and researched their initiative in releasing a new product. Mosaic Marketing advised a differentiation strategy outlining a solid foundation of market research and testing. Mosaic Marketing Consultants also advised a strong technology aspect to the product’s distribution channels as well as eco-friendly considerations.
Mosaic Marketing team members are: Gina Marie Cody ’08, a double-major in psychology and Spanish; Carmen Lance ‘08, a business administration major who will begin working as a financial advisor at Edward Jones after graduation; Natalia Pszenny, a senior from Italy who will graduate in December with a degree in Accounting; and Carla Ruiz-Ney ‘08, a double-majored in economics and business administration who plans to pursue a master’s degree in finance at Vanderbilt University.
Founded in 1904, Alpha Kappa Psi is the oldest professional business fraternity with chapters all across the United States, Canada, and the United Kingdom. With more than 200,000 members worldwide, Alpha Kappa Psi is recognized as the premier developer of principled business majors.
The Nu Omega chapter at Wesleyan College was founded in 1992, and is open to all majors with the premise that both business and professionalism will be essential for any college graduate regardless of specific field. With thirty active members, Nu Omega is currently one of the largest organizations on Wesleyan’s campus. The group participates in multiple community and school service projects, fundraising and professional events. Nu Omega hosts all of the topics for the Fiscal Fitness Series of convocations sponsored by Cox Communications and they recently hosted a convocation on E-Mail Etiquette for the Wesleyan student body.
Dr. Glenna Dod, Chair of Wesleyan’s Social and Behavioral Sciences Division and Professor of Free Enterprise, is the group’s faculty advisor. According to Dod, Alpha Kappa Psi instills into these young women professionalism and preparation for the business world. “These students are insightful and perceptive as to the factors needed in business. They represent our Wesleyan students -- well prepared and articulate. This verifies our beliefs about the preparation they are receiving at Wesleyan,” said Dod.
