Fall Semester 2008


August 3: Residence halls open to new international students
August 5-6: Orientation for new international students
August 6: New faculty orientation
August 7: Faculty meeting
August 7-8: Orientation for non-summer participant
August 8: Faculty development workshop
August 9: Residence halls open to new students at 9:00 am; dining hall opens for lunch
August 9-12: Orientation of new students
August 10: Residence halls open for returning students @ 2:00 pm
August 12: Final registration
August 13: Classes begin; drop/take period begins; CR/NC grade option period begins
August 19: Last day to register; last day for schedule changes; drop/take period ends; CR/NC grade option period ends; removal of “I” grades
August 28 : Fall Convocation, 11:15 am
September 1: Labor Day (offices closed; classes not in session)
October 6-7: Fall break (offices open; classes not in session)
October 8: Mid-semester date; mid-semester reports due in registrar’s office by 3:00 pm
October 27-November 13: Early registration for spring semester
October 29: Last day to withdraw from a class with a grade of “W” (registrar’s office)
November 25: Thanksgiving holidays begin at conclusion of classes; dining hall closes at conclusion of dinner
November 26: Offices close at noon on Wednesday for Thanksgiving holidays
November 27-28: Thanksgiving holidays (offices closed)
November 30: Dining hall opens for dinner
December 1: Classes resume
December 5: Last day of classes
December 6: Reading day
December 8-12: Final examinations; Christmas vacation begins at conclusion of finals; dining hall closes at conclusion of dinner on last day of finals
December 13: Residence halls close at 10:00 am
December 15: Final grades due to Registrar by 3:00 pm
December 24-31; Christmas Holidays (offices closed)


Spring Semester 2009

January 1: New Year’s Day (closed)
January 2: Residence halls open to new students
January 2-6: Orientation of new students
January 4: Residence halls open for returning students @ 2:00 p.m.; dining hall opens with dinner
January 5: Faculty development workshop
January 6: Final registration
January 7: Classes begin; drop/take period begins/CR/NC grade option period begins

January 19: Martin Luther King Day (offices closed; classes not in session)
February 25: Mid-semester date; mid-semester reports due in registrar’s office by 3:00 pm
March 6: Spring vacation begins at conclusion of classes; dining hall closes at conclusion of dinner
March 13: Spring holiday (offices closed)
March 15: Dining hall opens for dinner
March 16: Classes resume

April 2: General education assessment for seniors, 11:15 (required)

April 15: Celebrating Student Scholarship Day
April 16: Honors & Awards Day Convocation, 11:15 am
April 17-19: Alumnae Weekend
April 29: Last day of classes
April 30: Reading day
May 1-6: Final examinations (grades for seniors’ exams given May 1, 2, & 4 are due within 36 hours; grades for seniors’ exams given May 5 & 6 are due by noon on Thursday, May 7
May 7: Residence halls close @ 10:00 am
May 8: Commencement rehearsal with assessment activities for graduating seniors (required)
May 8: Baccalaureate, 7:00 pm
May 9: Commencement, 10:00 am; dining hall closes after breakfast; residence halls close @ 7:00 pm for students involved in graduation
