Leap of Faith Challenge
Surpassing goal, Leap of Faith Challenge lands Wesleyan on solid ground

In 2001, anonymous donors took a Leap of Faith with Wesleyan, offering a $15 million gift contingent upon the commitment of $30 million from other supporters of the college. With great joy, Wesleyan successfully met and surpassed the Leap of Faith challenge goal in August, 2006 with gifts and pledges totaling $30.8 million from nearly 2,000 alumnae, trustees, foundations, and other friends.

Originally designed to strengthen Wesleyan’s endowment, the Challenge was later generously expanded by the anonymous donors to include gifts toward constructing the Munroe Science Center. The Leap of Faith substantially strengthened financial aid through many new endowed scholarships, edified our unrestricted endowment, supported the construction of the Munroe Science Center, and increased funding for academic programming in the sciences.

“We are enormously grateful to our anonymous donors and to our alumnae and many friends who have blessed the college with generous gifts, treasured friendship, and steadfast support,” said President Ruth Knox. “This campaign already has produced tangible results – a larger endowment, a marvelous new facility under construction, and a renewed sense of purpose. As outstanding pledges continue to be paid, and as we all experience the wonderful new environment for teaching and learning that the Munroe Science Center will give us, we will see even more clearly the profound and lasting impact of the Leap of Faith campaign on Wesleyan and our students. Thanks to all who joined us to meet the challenge, and special thanks to our anonymous friends for your incredible generosity and your unwavering love of Wesleyan.”
