Equestrian Team Returns from College of Charleston after Strong Showing
Macon, GA (Nov. 20, 2007) – The Wesleyan College Equestrian Team competed in a Hunt Seat Show at the College of Charleston over the weekend finishing higher in points than region leader (in points) University of Florida. The show marked the final competition for the team this year.

First-year riders Christy Mann and Annie Barnes earned ribbons on Novice Flat, finishing second and fourth respectively.

“We are really proud of Christy Mann for placing second overall in Novice Flat,” said Pioneer Head Coach Melody Kirkland. “We are also very excited about placing above the University of Florida in points.”


Equestrian Team Competes at Georgia Tech
Macon, GA (Nov. 5, 2007) – The Wesleyan College Equestrian Team traveled to Georgia Tech over the weekend to compete in a Hunt Seat Show.

First-year Pioneer rider Enya Gomez-Piercy earned a second place ribbon in Beginner Walk/Trot/Canter. In her first year of horse showing she has shown steady improvements. In October, she earned sixth place in the same event.

Fellow first-year rider Annie Barnes placed second in Novice Fences and third in Novice Flat. Sophomore April Roos earned a fourth place ribbon in Walk/Trot.

“The students did well,” said assistant coach Courtenay Bunn. “Their riding continues to improve with every show. Mary, Enya and Annie’s hard work and dedication paid off this weekend.”


Wesleyan College Equestrian Team Has Strong Showing at University of Florida Horse Show
Macon, GA (Oct. 15, 2007) – The Wesleyan College Equestrian Team competed at the University of Florida Hunt Seat horse show Saturday.

Sophomore Rhea Walsh earned a second place ribbon in Advanced Walk/Trot/Canter in her first show since breaking her collarbone.

Junior Natalia Pszenny earned a third place ribbon Walk Trot. Senior Stephanie Hood earned sixth in Novice Fences and third in Novice Flat.

First-year rider Annie Barnes placed fourth in Novice Flat while fellow first-year team member Christy Mann placed sixth in Novice Fences.

“It was a tough horse show, but we did well overall,” said head coach Melody Kirkland. “We are extremely proud of everyone’s hard work and dedication.”


Wesleyan College Equestrian Rides Home with Four First-Place Ribbons at Weekend Competition
Macon, GA (Oct. 1, 2007) – The Wesleyan College Equestrian Team traveled to Georgia Southern University for a weekend-long competition earning four first-place ribbons.

Senior Stephanie Hood led the Pioneers team earning Reserve High Point Rider. The ribbon is awarded to the second highest point rider overall for horse show. Hood earned first-place Open Western Horsemanship and fifth-place Open Reining. She also earned fifth-place Novice Equitation* over fences in the Hunt Seat Show Saturday.

Junior Jennifer Theisen, third-place Beginner Western Horsemanship, pointed-out of her division and will now be competing in Intermediate I Western Horsemanship.

First-year rider Rachel Webb earned first-place Beginner Western Horsemanship in her first-ever horse show. Fellow first-year Pioneer Annie Barnes, riding in her first-ever Intercollegiate Horse Show Association competition, placed first in Novice Equitation on the flat and fifth-place Novice over fences in the Hunt Show. Barnes also placed first in Novice Western Horsemanship in the first Western Show and third-place Novice Western in the second show.

“The team did an amazing job for their first show,” said Courtenay Bunn, Wesleyan College Equestrian Assistant Coach. “I’m looking forward to them improving throughout the year. Our regional president, Eleanor Ellis, praised us on how well the team did this weekend.”

*Equitation is the class judged on rider.


Wesleyan College Equestrian Team Travels to Georgia Southern University for First Competition
Macon, GA (Sept. 28, 2007) – The Wesleyan College Equestrian Team is traveling to Georgia Southern University for a weekend-long show, its first competition of the season. The team will compete in Hunt Seat competition Saturday, followed by Western Sunday.

Senior, Stephanie Hood will be competing in the most advanced division of Western for the Pioneers.

The Pioneers' 17-member equestrian team features 10 first-year members.

“Although we are a young team we have a lot of talented riders competing for us this year,” said Wesleyan Head Equestrian Coach Melody Kirkland.


Wesleyan’s Stephanie Hood Qualifies for Equestrian Super Zones

On Sunday, February 25, some of the Wesleyan College equestrian team members who compete in the Western riding discipline attended the Western Regional competition for Zone 5, Region 3 at Georgia Southern University’s Evermore Farm.

Junior Stephanie Hood placed second in the Novice Western Horsemanship division, which earned her the opportunity to compete in the Super Zones at the University of Findlay on March 25. If she does well in that competition, Stephanie will have the opportunity to compete at the Western Nationals, which will be held May 3-6 in West Springfield, MA.

Also competing in the Western Regionals was sophomore Becca Turner. She rode in the Intermediate Western Horsemanship division and placed fifth.

The Wesleyan equestrian team will compete in the Hunt Seat discipline this weekend when they travel to Atlanta, Ga. for two shows, one at Georgia Tech on Saturday, March 3 and one at Emory University on Sunday, March 4.


Wesleyan Equestrian Competes in Hunt Seat Shows

Macon, Ga. – The Wesleyan College equestrian team competed in two Hunt Seat shows for Region 3, Zone 5 in Alpharetta, Ga. over the weekend of March 3-4. The Pioneers competed against riders from the College of Charleston, SCAD, Emory, Georgia State, Georgia Southern, Georgia Tech, University of Florida, Florida State, University of Miami and University of Central Florida.

Saturday’s show was co-hosted by Georgia Tech and Georgia State at Huntcliff Farm. The Wesleyan College results are as follows:

Wesleyan Equestrian Team Competes at Georgia Southern
January 22, 2007

Macon, Ga. - The Wesleyan College Equestrian team traveled south to Georgia Southern University’s Evermore Farm in Brooklet, Georgia, to compete in three IHSA affiliated horse shows over the weekend of January 21-22.

On Saturday, the Pioneers competed in their first Hunt Seat show of the 2007 competitive season against teams from the College of Charleston, Savannah College of Art and Design, Georgia Southern, Emory, Georgia Tech, Georgia State, Florida State, the University of Central Florida, the University of Florida and the University of Miami. The Wesleyan College riders finished as follows:
