Our beloved Ann Munck passed away on March 8, 2007. Services were held on Sunday, March 11, 2007 at Hart’s Mortuary in Macon, Georgia.

As alumnae, we recognize that no one epitomizes Wesleyan Sisterhood more than Ann Munck.  Friends, former students and classmates remember how Miss Munck taught us about sisterhood while she was teaching us about Chaucer. The Senior Class of 1964 dedicated their yearbook to now legendary professor of English, Ann Munck:

“We love her because she loves us – for what we are, for what we could be if we tried. That’s what makes her such a fascinating person – her keen, immediate perception of the worth of every individual. Her wisdom is, in part, a result of this perceptiveness, coupled with a brilliance that delights in academic pursuit. . . . The very thought of her inspires and encourages us to strive toward intellectual perfection.”

As you may know, two endowed funds were established some years ago in her honor.  Miss Munck served as a faculty member from 1950 to 1988. Upon retirement, a group of her former students established an award in her honor, the Ann Munck Award for Excellence in Teaching. There were more than 340 donors when the fund was established. An endowed fund, the honor provides a monetary award for a faculty member who exemplifies excellence in his or her profession.

A second endowed fund was actually created before the teaching award. It is a scholarship established in 1970 by the PK class to honor their advisor. Originally called the "PK Class of 1970 Scholarship Fund," they petitioned the Board of Trustees to rename it in 1971. It is now known as the Ann Munck Scholarship Fund. Recipients are selected based on financial need and contributions to Wesleyan and their class. The scholarship is awarded to a rising junior.

Gifts to Wesleyan College in her memory will benefit the Ann Munck Award for Excellence in Teaching and the Ann Munck Scholarship Fund.
