Donaley Dorsett says she has carried the lessons she learned at Wesleyan into her career and her personal life.
"The education that I received at Wesleyan has been a tremendous asset to me, professionally, of course, but personally as well," says Dorsett, a native of Dominica, West Indies, who moved to Miami, Florida, as a nine-year-old. "I made several life-long friends during my years at Wesleyan, and I consider these friends to be the most valuable asset that Wesleyan gave me."
Dorsett, who was actively involved in the Black Student Alliance on campus, says her Wesleyan education taught her responsibility.
"It (Wesleyan education) taught me to make sound decisions, and most of all, it taught me that there needs to be a touch of common sense in every decision made," she says.
Although Dorsett doesn’t recall how she first heard of Wesleyan, it didn’t take long for the College to make a big impression on her.
"I chose to attend Wesleyan because the college recruiter took the time to learn my story and demonstrate to me how Wesleyan would match my desires in an educational institution," Dorsett says. "Even after I had made the final decision to enter Wesleyan, they did not forget about me. Not a week went by when I did not receive some form of communication from someone associated with Wesleyan.
"The attention made me feel special, unlike the other large state schools I was considering."
At Wesleyan, every student is truly special. |
